ABOUT SATORI
Satori was founded in 1993 by David York to provide a community
based choral experience for men. It was born at a time political
issues affecting people's personal lives in Oregon were very divisive.
David and the founders offered a peaceful alternative for men
to come together and sing. Out of this came our mission of
"Men Singing Peace."
Satori supports itself through dues, concert ticket sales and contributions. Our dues are currently $30 per month, which goes to
pay our director, purchase music, and general operating expenses. First month dues are waived as you get to know us. We have a
limited scholarship program to support anyone, regardless of his financial situation, who wants to sing with us.
The word SATORI means " a fleeting yet transformational moment of enlightenment; an extraordinary experience of grace, wonder
and mystery." Satori Members have often experienced "SATORI" moments when our music transcends our individual voices;
we become as one, even for that fleeting moment.
Our environment tries to be supportive, encouraging and fun. Members have the opportunity to expand their musical knowledge
and technique while challenging themselves at their own pace. We memorize some pieces while others are sung on book. Solo tryouts are encouraged, shared and supported. Our rehearsals & performances maintain a sense of joy. And throughout ... a sense of
social consciousness, a connection to the world, one another and our pervasive commitment to PEACE THROUGH SINGING.
