PORTLAND, OR  –  Join Satori Men’s Chorus as we celebrate the first concert of our 25th Season, “From Our Beginning”.  Experience an uplifting evening of song and celebration, as we remember the music that awakened the spirit that is Satori Men’s Chorus.

Current members of Satori have collaborated with Artistic Director Susan Dorn to select music for this Silver Anniversary “From Our Beginning” concert from the hundreds of compositions the chorus has performed over the years. The list of “favorites” from the Satori repertoire selected for this special concert include “Kyrie” from Portland composer Judy Rose, which was written specifically for Satori Men’s Chorus. Another original composition, written by Satori’s own Ken Skach-Mills in honor of the chorus’ 10th Anniversary, is the aptly titled “Satori” … a song that defines the meaning and spirit of Satori Men’s Chorus.

Featuring music the choir membership voiced as their favorites to perform, this program is a fantastic mix of musical genres from start to finish, all associated with the foundation of Satori Men’s Chorus. Music that is truly engaging, uplifting, expressive, beautiful … and sometimes surprising. Satori will be sharing such pieces as “Down By the Riverside”, “Betelehemu”, “Colorado Trail”, “Cool Water”, “The Whiffenpoof Song”, “The Drunken Sailor”, “Seize the Day”, and more … music that brought the original Men of Satori together, and kept us going throughout the years. And don’t be surprised if there are a few extra surprises and guest artists appearing during the evening!

As Susan Dorn, Satori’s Artistic Director expressed, “The music for this concert celebrates what brought that original group of men together twenty-five years ago. They came together in a time when peace was a much needed commodity. The musical selections that were so much needed then speak just as loudly today. The idea of Men Singing Peace is still needed.”
